Here's the real, honest truth - The first time I ever heard this song, it stopped me in my tracks. I can't remember exactly what I was doing, whether it was cleaning the house, doing dishes, etc. The hook line of the song hit and I had to stop what I was doing, set it all down, and go back to the record player to take the track back and hear it all over again. And again. And again. The song was "I'll Make It Up To You," originally written and recorded by Clay Hammond and featured on the 2nd disc of Ace/Kent's "Take Me To The River" southern soul compilation. I must have listened back to the song five times over. From then on, I would sing the song all the time while getting ready for work, cleaning, working, just in normal day-to-day life. As the pandemic hit, I continued to make music for fun and for therapy, and I finally decided that this song would be a good vehicle for me to own my voice and finally release a song that is just me. No featured artist, not trying to sound like anyone other than myself, not trying to do anything other than sing a song I love. So, here it is - my first single as a genuine artist in my own right. Yes, more original compositions will surely come but for now please enjoy my version of Clay Hammond's haunting, beautiful song - "I'll Make It Up To You."
